How it works
The Flesch Reading Ease score uses average sentence length and average syllables per word. Higher scores mean easier text. The Flesch-Kincaid grade estimates the US school grade needed to follow the text.
Syllables are estimated with a rule-based method, so scores are approximate. Use them to compare drafts, not as an absolute judgement. Passive voice detection is a pattern match and will miss or misflag some sentences.
FAQs
What’s a good score for a business website?
For a general audience, plain and easy-to-read text usually works best. Many writers aim for a Reading Ease of 60 or higher, but specialist audiences can handle lower scores.
Does it work for Hindi or Hinglish?
No. The formulas were designed for English and won’t give meaningful scores for other languages.
Why are some sentences highlighted?
Sentences over 25 words are flagged because long sentences are a common cause of hard-to-read text.
